Shamar Young is a dedicated civil servant and park and recreation professional with 30 years experience in municipal government, special park districts, private/corporate entities, and nationally recognized nonprofits. Young was influenced by parks and recreation as a young person, which laid the foundation for an interest in pursuing a career in the profession. Young has a passion for maintaining public facilities and green spaces that contribute to enriching peoples' lives and building a sense of community. Young enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and believes that being a park and recreation professional is a lifestyle and a calling, not just an occupation. Young serves as a mentor and coach, and appreciates the opportunity to positively influence young professionals.
