Phil Ginsburg, General Manager of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, oversees more than 4,100 acres and 230 city parks, including world-renowned Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower and the Palace of Fine Arts. Phil has focused the department’s objectives on equity and access to public recreation. Under his leadership, San Francisco became the first U.S. city where all residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, and he is leading the transformation of a 1.7-mile stretch of the city’s southern waterfront using an equitable development planning process. Phil has created a financially sustainable park system through public-private partnerships and innovative revenue strategies. He also initiated California’s first state-certified horticultural apprenticeship program. Phil serves as Chair of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission and is on the National Recreation and Park Association Board of Directors. He co-chairs San Francisco Children and Nature, promoting nature access for youth.
