Katrina Coots Ward

Katrina Coots Ward is the partnership and developmental director for the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC). Her passion for recreation started early, participating in sports leagues and summer camps. In 1994, she began working with people with disabilities, volunteering with Louisiana Special Olympics and serving as a camp counselor. Katrina earned a B.S. in therapeutic recreation from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2005 and joined BREC shortly after. At BREC, she has championed inclusive programs and worked on various initiatives, including basic recreation classes, community events, inclusive sports leagues, grants and summer day camps. Katrina has presented at more than 20 conferences and served on numerous community boards and committees, including five years on the LRPA Executive Board. She is a dedicated advocate for recreation, highlighting its benefits in enhancing quality of life, self-expression and personal satisfaction.
