Morgan Hughey is an Associate Professor in Public Health and Faculty Fellow in the Honors College at the College of Charleston. Her research examines how elements of the community built environment infrastructure influence physical activity and obesity with a focus on parks and recreation. Within Hughey’s research agenda, she also studies inequities in built environment features and how to engage communities to improve access to and quality of parks. She strives to not only advance knowledge, but also apply quality research approaches to help facilitate evidence-based solutions that improve community health. Dr. Hughey has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals in her field, such as “Health and Place,” “Journal of Physical Activity and Health,” and “Journal of Park and Recreation Administration.” Hughey’s undergraduate degree is from Furman University in health sciences, and both her master’s degree and doctoral degree were earned from the University of South Carolina.
