Carla Benavides is a 2010 Towson University graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport Management. Carla comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and professional experience, more than 13 years in the Recreation and Sports field. Carla began as a seasonal staff member with M-NCPPC in 2011 as a Help Desk Representative, then transitioned into a career employee as a Recreation Specialist for the Northern Area Operations Division. She has since held positions with the Montgomery County Recreation Department as a Recreation Specialist for its Countywide Sports Team, Youth Development Team, and Program Specialist with the Central Area Operations Division of M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County. Carla has a passion for coaching, as she was the head women’s varsity soccer coach for Northwestern High School – she took the Wildcats to the Regional Championships in back-to-back seasons.

In addition, Carla has been a very active member of the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association and has held several board and committee positions. She is the Secretary of the Recreation and Leisure Services Branch and a member of the (SJREI) Social Justice, Racial Equity, and Inclusion Committee where she helped plan and execute the first ever Ride for Justice Bike Ride that helped raise scholarship funds for minority members of MRPA.

Carla’s passion for Prince George’s County, youth programming and sports led her back to The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County as the newest member of the Youth and Countywide Sports Division. Her hope is to even out the playing field by providing the youth in the county access to quality sports opportunities, where youth will find a team to call home.

In her leisure time, Carla is an active member of her sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., enjoys time with her family, friends, running Disney races and riding her Peloton.
