Description:
All too often, a park and recreation master plan is developed by leadership and does not trickle across the organization — or worse — it sits on a shelf or is used as a doorstop and is not implemented. This session will guide park and recreational professionals of all levels to better understand the key components of master planning, how to engage key stakeholders throughout the development of the plan, as well as the implementation, and how to methodically complete action items for all aspects of operations and service delivery.
Learning Objectives:
1. After attending this session, attendees should be able to examine the critical components of a park and recreation master plan, including a statistically valid needs assessment survey, geographic information system (GIS) level of service or gaps in service, stakeholder engagement and workshops, and a prioritized action plan.
2. After attending this session, attendees should be able to identify key stakeholders and their roles in master plan implementation.
3. After attending this session, attendees should be able to demonstrate how to complete action items by organizing short-, mid- and long-term objectives, identifying funding sources and partnerships, and activating their human capital.
