Description:
Connecting with our communities and creating opportunities for all is a fundamental part of the park and recreation profession. Eliminating barriers to participation, such as transportation, is one of the many ways a recreation department can serve its community. The best way to remove a transportation barrier is to bring the programs to the community. Mobile recreation programs are becoming increasingly popular as they bring play to children. In this session you will hear from the cities of Federal Way and Auburn, Washington, about their newly created mobile recreation programs. Both programs debuted in 2022. Hear how they were created, marketed and implemented. Learn from their successes and mistakes so you can create a mobile recreation program of your own.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will gain knowledge on how to successfully implement a mobile recreation program in their own community using the successes and failures of the examples given as a guide.
2. Attendees will understand how to identify the best locations and activities for a successful program.
3. Attendees will learn how to scale this program model to fit any size agency, community and budget.
