Description:
Many park and recreation agencies across the country have reported challenges recruiting and hiring part-time and seasonal staff to support their summer operations. Responding to this challenge, a study was conducted with undergraduate and graduate students across two universities to examine the students' summer work study plans, priorities, recruitment preferences, and overall experiences. The findings from this study that included more than 570 undergraduate and graduate students will be shared, as well as recruitment and selection strategies and recommendations for agencies to consider.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will learn to recognize the preferred recruitment methods utilized by college students when searching for summer employment
2. Attendees will examine college students' highest (and lowest) priorities when making decisions about their summer employment options.
3. Attendees will discuss recruitment and selection strategies for part-time and seasonal summer positions that are guided by the study's findings and Gen Z research.
