Description:
The Center of Recreational Excellence (CORE), the City of Hobbs’ (New Mexico) $63.5 million, 158,000-square-foot, multi-generational recreation center, which opened in June 2018, was nearly 20 years in the making. This session will navigate the path that allowed the City of Hobbs and its community partners to provide a one-of-a-kind facility that morphed from an aquatics center into an award-winning recreation facility by going completely off the drawing board through construction and opening. Without the successful public-private partnerships that were developed in the community, the CORE would never have become a reality. The panel, which consists of staff from the Hobbs Recreation Department, the construction manager at risk and architect, will share the strategies which allowed the CORE to become a reality.
Learning Objectives:
1. After attending this session, attendees should be able to identify strategies used in the formation of successful public-private partnerships.
2. After attending this session, attendees should be able to identify methods used to formulate the successful planning, design and construction of the CORE.
3. After attending this session, attendees should be familiar with the current strategies in place for planning and programming at the CORE.
