Description:
Most professionals get into the park and recreation field because it's a fun way to make an impact on communities. However, nobody talks about the challenges and opportunities that exist: bureaucracy, red tape, budgets, technology and general government processes. These challenges exist regardless of the agency that we work in, whether local, federal, nonprofit, etc.
Through live audience polling, participants will interact in this session by taking a look at the differences and similarities of recreation programs in nonprofit, federal and local agencies. In addition, we will explore how leading in these different agencies is not all that different, especially when navigating through ever-changing landscapes (i.e., pandemics). By the end of this session, participants will expand their purview of different careers within parks and recreation among the different agencies.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will explore the different agencies and career opportunities/challenges that exist in parks and recreation (municipal, federal and nonprofit).
2. Participants will discuss differences and similarities with challenges and opportunities that exist among agencies while exploring the leadership styles that yield the best results.
3. Participants will connect, engage and grow their professional network.
