Description:
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department (CRPD) is leading system change by revising municipal codes and developing departmental policies to conserve our natural resources and promote sustainability. CRPD created and passed a city ordinance to formally protect ecologically sensitive and unique areas as city nature preserves. The department is developing code to preserve trees on public and private lands. The implementation of departmental policies provides best management practices for creating and maintaining natural areas. These policies hold us and other departments working on parkland accountable. This session showcases key case studies that CRPD used to safeguard nature through innovative policies, protocols and code.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will leaving understanding the research and engagement process to develop new natural resources policies.
2. Attendees will learn to maximize best management practices through departmental policies.
3. Attendees will learn to generate local support and engage city and community leaders to advocate for sustainability.

Clinics and Sandboxes will be smaller sessions and on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to arrive early!
- Talks will be delivered as lectures or panel sessions.
- Clinics will focus on applying concepts to real-life examples through workshop activities.
- Sandboxes are a great networking opportunity that invite participants to talk shop, compare notes and swap advice around hot topics in the field.
