Description:
Many people feel a lot of pressure to be perfect in a new job from day one. Without a guidebook out there to tell you how to start off in a new position, many people throw themselves into it with a "sink or swim" approach, and often feel alone. There is the need for more folks to have a little more grace with themselves, to be themselves, and to understand that a new job - especially as a leader - takes time to be great at. What you as a new leader hope to accomplish in those first 90 days and beyond can largely be impacted on how you start out from day one. When, Lara Hamwey started out with the City of Tucson as the new Parks and Recreation Director, she identified a six reminders to keep herself focused on creating a great foundation in this new role and city, especially when dealing with it being in the middle of a pandemic. Recognizing that she couldn't be the only one who could benefit from these reminders, she hopes to help others be successful in starting a new leadership position.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn six recommendations for approaching a new leadership role.
2. Participants will identify what core leadership values they want to be part of their legacy as a leader.
3. Participants will be inspired to be themselves, no matter the position, and be reminded that it's ok to not be perfect.
