Description:
When we use a racial equity analysis to evaluate the policies and procedures, written and unwritten rules, and formal and informal guidelines of our work together, we can expose the traditions of disparity and embedded bias that may still exist in current practices of park and recreation management. A thriving organizational culture and community starts with each person treating others with fairness and respect. Intentionally embedding more equity into the internal practices of hiring and recruitment, training and discipline, and leadership and culture, is the foundation for equity-based outcomes existing in external practices of resource allocation. Using the intersection of racial and economic disparity gives higher purpose to park planning, allocation of resources, recreational programming, community engagement and staff morale.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn to courageously pursue partnerships for equity.
2. Participants will learn to confidently share knowledge and best practices with partners, stakeholders, staff and the public we serve.
3. Participants will learn to collaborate in new ways to build equitable organizations that deliver joyous parks and programming for all.
