Description:
Members of almost every community want their own community center…or do they? Perhaps what they really want is access to culturally competent, inclusive and diverse programs and services where they live, work and play. Through the launch of our recreation mobile units, we have been able to provide programming in local neighborhoods in our parks and on our trails.
And we didn’t stop there! With DEI issues at the forefront, we took our mobile programming to the next level. Hear how the Prince George’s County (Maryland) Department of Parks and Recreation successfully utilizes their Arts on a Roll, Get Fit Mobile, Therapeutic Recreation in Motion and other mobile units to provide diverse, accessible, equitable and inclusive services and programs throughout the county.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees should be able to examine their department’s existing mobile programming and identify opportunities for growth.
2. Attendees should be able to estimate the overall cost of new programs and services that increase DEI.
3. Attendees should be able to include arts, health and wellness, and therapeutic recreation programs in their existing mobile recreation program.
