Description:
Social districts continue to be a prevalent topic of discussion in many different communities and municipalities. North Carolina defines a social district as a defined outdoor area where alcoholic beverages may be consumed. The City of Raleigh’s Office of Emergency Management and Special Events will provide a blueprint on how to create a successful social district in your town or city. This session will cover three main objectives:
• How to implement a social district
• How to have a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) focus when engaging community stakeholders and event organizers
• How social districts may impact special events
With these three core principles, the session creates a streamlined starting platform to help participants move toward creating a successful social district.
Learning Objectives:
1. After attending this session, attendees should be able to understand the process and economic impact of implementing a social district.
2. After attending this session, attendees should be able to utilize a DEI focus to engage community stakeholders and event organizers.
3. After attending this session, attendees should be able to gain an understanding of how social districts may impact special events.
