Description:
The City of Greensboro, North Carolina, will present on an innovative approach to rethinking the concept of recreation, library, community and government community services through the intertwining of programs and spaces to create accessibility to the public. The project reimagines three existing facilities located in walking proximity to each other to create the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex. In the project, Greensboro is working to implement the beliefs of NRPA that parks and recreation, libraries and other community institutions are vital to improve where people live, learn, work and play. These services are critical as a Community Wellness Hub, to connect every member of the community to essential services and spaces that advance health equity, improve health outcomes and enhance overall quality of life. As presenters, the team will share the visionary approach to partnership planning, community engagement and design efforts to bring the new concept to residents.
Learning Objectives:
1. Outline how to develop a key stakeholder group and internal partnerships to promote, support and create project buy-in and evaluate proposals.
2. Identify ways to effectively complete community engagement efforts that draw on tactics utilizing interactive methods and models for reaching the public while promoting a community based design.
3. Recognize the benefits of marketing, funding strategies, wellness partnerships and intergovernmental coordination to deliver community services, education and recreation in a wellness hub setting.
